Julia Roberts $8,000 Wedding Dress Went Unclaimed After She Decided To 'No-Show' Her Wedding
Julia Roberts is officially back on the big screen, after a four-year hiatus. The actress was last seen in a movie in 2018, when she played the character Holly Burns in Peter Hedges’ Ben is Back.
For someone whose career has been as prolific as she’s had, Roberts’ absence was bound to stoke speculation about her future in Hollywood. Indeed, the question of whether she might have walked away from acting for good began to become rife.
However, the 54-year-old decided to take the bull by the horns and confront this gossip. She confirmed that her lack of movie roles in the last few years was caused by a combination of personal reasons, as well as a dearth of quality scripts coming her way.
Finally, though, Roberts is now starring in a new rom-com titled Ticket to Paradise, alongside George Clooney. At the same time, she is also currently filming for another upcoming movie called Leave the World Behind, expected to be released on Netflix in the coming months.

Julia Roberts Was Set To Marry Kiefer Sutherland In June 1991
June 11, 1991 was set to be the biggest day in the life of Julia Roberts and fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland. The two had been in a relationship for a short period of time, but the Stand By Me star felt he had seen enough to go down on one knee and ask the then-23-year-old to spend the rest of her life with him.
All plans were in place for a grand wedding, with a prime location picked on one of the soundstages at the 20th Century Fox studios. Roberts had already settled on four bridesmaids for the big day, and they had all reportedly picked up their designer shoes for the occasion: four Manolo Blahniks that cost $425 a pair.
The actress had her wedding dress all ready to go, and she was set to pick it up at the Tyler Trafficante salon in West Hollywood.
The garment is believed to have been hitting her pocket to the tune of $8,000. Just days before the wedding, however, Roberts changed her mind about walking down the aisle and the ceremony was called off.
Why Did Julia Roberts Call Off Her Wedding To Kiefer Sutherland?
For Kiefer Sutherland, losing Julia Roberts in the manner that he did was practically dying from the sword he had lived by. The Pretty Woman actress is also said to have been engaged to her Steel Magnolias co-star Dylan McDermott when she met Sutherland.
She broke off that engagement to be with the future star of 24, only to then dump him so close to their big day. In subsequent interviews, Roberts has been insistent that the breakup was not as abrupt as has been reported in the media, and that Sutherland got to see it coming.
What is known for sure is that in the months following their canceled wedding, she was in a new relationship, with Rush actor Jason Patric. To escape all the scrutiny that came from the said love triangle, Roberts and Patric reportedly went away to Ireland for some time.
The affair between the two stars did not last long either, as they broke up in 1992. Thankfully, there had been no wedding plans in place this time around.
How Does Kiefer Sutherland Feel About Jason Patric’s Relationship With Julia Roberts?
Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Jason Patric all got to move on with their lives after the debacle. Another year after Roberts and Patric went their separate ways, she eventually got married to musician Lyle Lovett.
Their short-lived marriage ended in 1995, before she would eventually meet and say “I do” to her current husband, Danny Moder in 2002. Sutherland walked down the aisle in 1996, with British-Canadian actor and singer Elizabeth Kelly Winn. They also got divorced – in 2004, with the Designated Survivor star now engaged to model Cindy Vela.
Patric never got married, but he was in an on-and-off relationship with Danielle Schreiber for about a decade after 2002. The two have one son together. The actor got together with Sutherland on a podcast in 2021, where they confirmed that there was never any bad blood between them. In fact, they even got to work together in 2011, when they both starred in a Broadway revival of the 1972 Pulitzer-winning play That Championship Season by Jason Miller.
